Check N Go and WRKO

Just sent a letter to both John Capuano (Advertising) and Ben Kulis (marketing director) at WRKO who has been running Commericals for "Check N' Go"

I am writing to draw your atention to a spot you have been running for "Check N GO"

Check N Go is a payday loan classified as a Predatory lender by such groups as the Consumer Federation of America HUD and the FDIC.

Hud states that "Since the Spring of 1999, HUD has been actively involved in combating predatory lending through research, regulation, consumer education and enforcement actions against lenders, appraisers, real estate brokers, and other companies and individuals that have victimized homebuyers"

http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/pred/predlend.cfm

"While FDIC-supervised institutions are not at the heart of the problem, the FDIC is concerned that predatory loans, from any source, can harm consumers and damage communities. The FDIC also has urged bankers not to purchase loans made by predatory lenders or provide financial support to these companies."

These companys routinely charge 500% interest and sometimes more. They prey on the poor and uneducated. Yet dispite Massachuttes tough stance on this type of business, by running the ads you are helping to weaken these laws. Vitually every state that allows payday loans regreats the decision and has multiple lawsuits pending against these guys and their cohorts. (see "Advance America") The more exposure they get here, the eaiser it will be for them to crack into our state by bribing local politicians vote against resticting interest rates. That cannot be good. It feeds poverty. I can not urge you strongly enough to pull these ads on princible and refund whatever they paid you for their air time.
And to NEVER do business with them or the title loans companys that are spreading through New Hampshire.

Thank you.
